If Gencon is on, so there is bound to be a lot of Infinity news! Yesterday were are tone of new images as well as information on the eagerly anticipated Human Sphere book. I have put it all together and added a few of my thought.

Nomad News

– Mobile Brigada box set

– Alguacile hacker (released in August)

Combined Army News

– The official title of the new CA sectorial is  First Contact ONYX force. This is formed from the models in the current CA starter set.

– Two new drones were shown, the Xeodrone and the Overdrone (least that’s what I think they are called). The latter looks like the CA equivalent of  a Han Huo!

Tohaa News

– Tohaa Kosuil Assault Pioneers , are hard hitting medium infantry with Symbiont, K1, mines, nimbus grenades etc. These will be out in September.

– Kerail Preceptors, the Tohaa equivalent of a antipode pack. The Preceptors are accompanied by alien “reptile lions”, called Mutan and Surda.

Personally I am not convinced by the the Tohaa “reptile-lions”, somehow they remind me of the He-Man Battle Cat, but i’ll reserve judgment until I see the model.

Yu Jing News

– Domaru Butai boxset (apparently Domaru will get new options/rules from the new Human Sphere book).

– Zhanjing troops (to be released early next year).

– Guija Resculpt (to be released by the end of the year).

11817230_10207461639804388_2914134972481639707_n

This TAG looks amazing, can’t wait to see the miniature!

Pan-O News

– Clausewitz Uhlan and Tikbalang box set

– Seraph

– Croc man hacker

– Nisses HMG (released in September)

11824993_10207461653084720_3001738604735986154_n

It’s TAG-tastic news! It’s been quite a wait, as the Stingray series design has gone through multiple changes, but looks like the wait has been worth it. My personal favorite is the Seraph (both model and rules).

Ariadna News

– Desperados and Mavericks to be released this year.

Human Sphere News

– The new Human Sphere will probably be released by the end of this year, bring all Inifnity rules up to N3 standard.

– The fire-teams rules will be rewritten and will include the new Duo fireteam, formed of two models. The Duo fire-team should be available to generic armies. It provides no fire-team bonus, but does allow two models to move with one order.

– EVO remotes become hackers with additional programs. For the first time the Combined army is getting an EVO.

– A new hacking device called a Killer Hacker device will be made available to certain models. The device will have only 4 programs (+1 for CA) designed to kill of enemy hackers. In addition one of the programs is cybermask.

– Certain models will not be present in the new Human Sphere. This includes Halqas, Kamau as well as the Merovingians  and Shasvastii sectorical.  These models and sectorials will remain legal and will be present in the Infinity online army builder. They will be re-released when  Acheron Falls is released (possibly 2016). The Shasvastii range will be re-designed.

Final Thoughts

Wow there is a lot of news to take in! I think this show how far CB are going to go to change Human Sphere to make Inifnity the game they really want, rather than simply cleaning it up. I expect we will see many more changes from Human Sphere, which in the future will open up many more tactics and options.

There are so many fantastic new models coming out, as well as re-sculpts. By the end of this year anyone wanting to get into Infinity will have a complete N3 system as well as an amazing and extensive model range, not blighted by some of the older and less well sculpted models. It should give Inifnity the stable base to grow even further as well as become an even more enjoyable game.

The only downside for me is the news that the Shasvastii range will be re-designed. As I already have a fairly large Shasvastii army, it’s a shame to know they will be out of date within (approximately) 2 years. Still it’s hard to complain about new and better models!

I have recently received the new Sogarat with HMG and what an impressive model it is!

Sogarats!

Sogarats!

The Model

The new Sogarat has been sculpted using computer aided techniques, just like the Sogarat with feuerbach from the Morat starter set. The benefits provided by this technique are pronounced when you compare the new Sogarat with HMG to the older, traditionally sculpted, model. The new Sogarat is much larger, but also has a more animated pose and greater depth to the model. Perhaps the main advantage of the model is that it looks great from every angel, whereas the old one Sogarat feels flat when viewed from the side.  The detail is also crisper.

On the table the Sogarat are a very intimidating force, with a high armor value, physical attribute and access to devastating weapons. To top it off even if the Sogarat is downed, he can use his auto-medikit to get back up! They certainly live up to their name of Tempest Regiment!

The List

I brought the model based on it’s sculpt alone, as I already had the older Sogarat with HMG. I am not in the least bit disappointed, as this is one beefy Morat! However it got me thinking, could I think of a list with all three Sogarats plus have specalist to do objectives… Turns out I could! This mostly comes down to the massive points decrease Sogarats have benefited from in N3.

So first off, lets add the 3 Sogarats. I think a great mix will be two with Feuerbach and one with HMG (ok I know that’s not wisiwig, but hey the old style HMG could easily be a Feuerbach!). This mix gives short ranged fire power from the assault pistols, medium range from the Feuerbach and the HMG for long range. The Sogarat have notably come down in points, so having three is no longer sucking up all your points (although still over half of a 300pts list!).

Model Points SWC
Sogarat: HMG 56 2
Sogarat: Feuerbach 57 1.5
Sogarat: Feuerbach 57 1.5

sogarat_feur_1

So now I have one tough as hell fire team, that can deal with a wide range of situations. But I can bulk it out even further by adding Kornak! Kornak notably adds a template weapon and close combat potential to the link, which gives protection from sneaky ninjas and the likes.

Model Points SWC
Kornak (Lt) 41  0

So with one very heavy duty link, I need some specalist to complete objectives. The first choice has to be a Morat Hacker, to give “Fiary Dust” to protect the Sogarats. Next I wanted to add a Kurgat for his engineering abilities to the list, just in case any em causes immobilization level2 to one of the expensive Sogarats. As the points are quickly drying up I added two Morat Vanguard Forward Observer, mainly as they are the cheapest specalist I could get my hands on!

Model Points SWC
Morat Hacker 22 0.5
Kurgat with boarding shotgun 17  0
Morat Vanguard Forward Observer 15  0
Morat Vanguard Forward Observer 15  0

The list is up to 8 models, but only a few points remain. So it’s time to bring in the faithful order generating bagage bots, the Ikadrons!

Model Points SWC
Ikadron 9  0
Ikadron 9  0

Final Thoughts

Sogarat with HMG

Sogarat with HMG

So the final list is below. The Sogarat and Kornak link will form a resilient fire team, as well as pumping out heavy firepower. The rest of the army will provides support as well as four speclaist for missions that can also accomplish most classified objectives.

Model Points SWC
Sogarat: HMG 56 2
Sogarat: Feuerbach 57 1.5
Sogarat: Feuerbach 57 1.5
Kornak (Lt) 41
Morat Hacker 22 0.5
Morat Vanguard Forward Observer 15
Morat Vanguard Forward Observer 15
Kurgat with boarding shotgun 17
Ikadron 9
Ikadron 9
Total: 298 5.5

This looks to be a very characterful list, as it’s just Morats being ridiculously unsubtle!

The list is far from perfect. For starters Sogarats are not without faults, their Achilles heel being their low BTS of 3. Due to this they really suffer from e/m, viral, hackers and anything else that targets BTS! Having three Sogarats amplifies this issue, so this list will have some bad match ups. In addition the list lacks any extra long range weapons, like sniper rifles, so if you come up aginst any you will have get close or “pray and spray” with the HMG! So if you face a Lasiq with viral rifle you will feel the pain!

That said I will give this list a go, if nothing more than to use all the Sogarat models I own, and report back!:)

With the release of Inifnity third edition we have also been spoilt with the profiles for the new Combined Army Starter! This starter set includes absolutely stunning models, showing off the new artistic direction for the Combined Army.

infinity-combined-army-starter-pack3

Umbra Legate

In my opinion the Umbra Legate is the star of the set, both in terms of the model and it’s profile. The Umbra Legate has a very high weapon skill and martial arts level 4, combine this with a Double Action close combat weapon and you have a real master in close quarters! The Umbra Legate also has a move of 6-2 and Forward Deployment to help it close the distance on it’s target (it definitely leads from the front!). Most importantly with the changes to close combat in N3, you can expect this model to actually want to get into close combat!

When it comes to ranged weapons, the Umbra Legate has the fantastic options of K1 rifle, spitfire or boarding shotgun. Both the K1 rifles and spitfire option can be the lieutenant, whereas the boarding shotgun profile has a Hacking Device Plus. In fact the boarding shotgun profile with Hacking Device Plus is my personal favorite. I can’t wait to use the Cybermask program to advance the Umbra Legate up the table, as well as using White Noise to get the jump on enemy models with MSV’s!

10734187_800068486720727_5871659450502583803_n

The Umbra Legate is not the toughest model, with only an armor value of 1, but Mimetism and No Wound Incapacitation should add a lot to it’s resilience. Overall this is a fantastic model with a lot of mid-range offensive potential from the K1 and Spitfire profile, as well as utility combined with close range offensive firepower from the hacker profile.

Unidron Batroids

The Unidron form the equivalent of line infantry for this set and look like mini Anathematics, which I think is fantastic! Unidron are reasonable priced at 14pts each, the same as a Morat Vanguard. It’s interesting to compare the two, as the Unidrons have more damage output from their plasma Carbine but are far worse at dodging due to their low PH and negative modifier for being a remote. The Unidron are also terrible in close combat and have a low WIP. On the plus side the Unidron have a high BTS (which is especially useful as they are hackable) and the dogged special rule (which in N3 works in the active and reactive turn!). Unfortunately Unidron can not be the Lieutenant (being remotes after all), which reduces the number of potential models to hide the identity of the real Lieutenant.

14012_800068920054017_4633793889028526995_n

As for weapon load out, as mentioned the Unidron start with Plasma Carbines. The Plasma Carbine is an absolutely lethal weapon, especially as the Blast Mode prevents the target from adding the cover modifier to their amour save. However it is the Plasma Sniper profile that really peaks my interest. This weapon combines the fantastic long range of a sniper rifle with the devastating damage of plasma amo. To top it off as a remote the Unidron can be augmented by a hacker to have Marksman level 2 or increased burst in the reactive turn. Either of these could be deadly on any Unidron, but absolutely phenomenal on one with a Plasma Sniper Rifle. The only downside to both Plasma Carbines and Plasma Sniper Rifle is the low burst of 2. Still I can safely say that I will be picking the sniper model up as soon as it comes out!

On the offense the spitfire profile also looks great. The Tinbot profile makes the Unidron an even harder target to hack, but for 3pts it’s not super cheap. However if Unidron are aloud to form links within the upcoming EI sectorial, this option will be very tempting. The K1 rifle profile is another solid option, but I think I would prefer the plasma carbine in the majority of situations.

Fraacta Drop Unit

The “evil Tohaa” are the new additions to the Combined Army. The models certainly don’t disappoint and I don’t think the profiles do either. The Fraacta Drop Unit is on the expensive side for a drop trooper (although fairly standard for the Combined Army), but with effectively two wounds you really are getting a lot for your points. Stat wise they are very similar to the Gao-Tarsos, so expect them to be just as deadly as this feared Tohaa unit. Personally I think the boarding shotgun and spitfire version really stand out, but I’d like to try the hacker variant as well (although the WIP of 12 might be an issue).

10433696_800068276720748_8940941707986850092_n

Maakrep

These are surprisingly similar to Djanbazan, which is no bad thing as any troop with MSV2 that can get back up after being shot is good in my books! The addition of sixth sense level 1 is also a nice touch. All the profiles look to be very playable, but it’s the HMG and Multi Sniper Rifle profile that really stand out for me. The hacker profile is not a bad option either, as the Maakrep has a nice BTS of 3.

Final Thought

The Combined Army starter set is an interesting mix of troops and abilities that looks like a lot of fun to play with. I expect the army to be highly aggressive, just as you would expect from the Combined Army! It’s also interesting that all the models in the set have a BTS value of at least 3, which fits the fluff of them primarily fighting against Tohaa and their viral weapons.

INF_280665a__33682.1416615432.1200.1200

If you are playing wisiwig with the starter set you may find it a bit restrictive. This is because of the Umbra Legate and Fraacta Drop Unit, as the former must be the Lieutenant and the latter a hacker. However starter sets really are just to get your collection going, rather than being a completely rounded force. Also if you don’t mind proxying you could open a few options up with the Maakrep becoming the Lt. As your collection grows I would expect a model with Mnemonica to be added, which would not only get round the “obvious Lieutenant” issue, but also the need for a hacker to field the Unidron.

As for the sculpts, all the models in the starter set get a “5 out of 5” from me and I will certainly be picking them up. I am really looking forward to seeing how my turquoise color scheme suits these models!

In preparation for Halloween here are my Scary Monsters and Super Creeps! I hope you enjoy them!:)

Oznat and Pretas

Oznat and Pretas

Pretas and Oznat (the scary monsters!) are part of my Combined Army force. The detail on the Oznat is fantastic, as her helmet and sword are fashioned from the remain of a defeated Alpha Preta (this is how they become the pack leader!). Even her necklace is made from the teeth of a Preta!

The pretas have a very high level of detail and movement. This dynamic poses looks great, but can be a pain when putting them togther!

Chimera Pupniks

Chimera Pupniks

In addition to the pretas here are photos of my “Super Creeps”, the Chimera, Pumpniks and even Bran Do Castro! They may look like there are off to a fancy dress party, but these are actually genetically modified warriors from Bakunin. I suppose this is what happens when you are aloud to delve into genetic manipulation unhindered!

Bran Do Castro

Bran Do Castro

Often referred to as the “Monkey King”, Bran is a Tripple Zero which means he is a fantastic infiltrator. I decided to not add the tail as I thought he was already special enough…

Here are my EI units for my Combined Army. These are generally the army lieutenant, leading a combination of other EI units Morats and Shasvastii into battle.

Anathematic

Anathematic

Anathematic

Anathematic

I painted the Anathematic a dark color scheme as it has TO camo, so I wanted it to look more stealthy. The model is really cool, I especially like the antenna! On the table most players fear the version with Sepsitor, as that can take control over enemy models!

Charontid with HMG

Charontid with HMG

The Charontid is a semi organic model, so I painted the flesh areas a pinkish red. This contrast well with the armor, but is a bit garish so I don’t think I will use it on future models.

Skiavoro

Skiavoro

The Skiavoro has my standard turquoise armor, but as it’s an android I used a darker green skin tone. I am really happy with the final result and will aim to use this scheme on future models.

Ikadrons

Ikadrons

My faithful cheap Ikadrons, these are a great asset to any CA player. I painted these in a similar scheme to the Charontid as they are semi organic. Again I will probably avoid the reddish pink again! Other than that I think they look alright.

Heavy Metal Morats!

Below are photos of my Morat heavy infantry (plus a Raktorak butler!). These are the heavy hitters of my Morat army and great fun to use. They pack the best armor and weapons and one of them is often my lieutenant. After all these are Morats and the strong lead!

I created my color scheme for my Combined Army before the Morats got their nice new dark military scheme, so they look brighter than I would have liked. To try and counter this I added black to some of their armor. Hopefully this will make them look a bit more menacing!

Suryat and Raktorak

Suryat and Raktorak

Suryat and Raktorak

Suryat and Raktorak

I painted the light sources in the armor yellow to give some extra contrast on the models. The Suryat is a great sculpt and one of my favorite Morat models. The helmet reminds me of a bull! The Raktorak is also cool and has a great pose, it really looks strong and brutal!

Sogarat with feuerbach

Sogarat with feuerbach

Sogarat with feuerbach

Sogarat with feuerbach

Sogarat

Sogarat with feuerbach

The Sogarat with with feuerbach is from the Morat starter set and is one great model. In my opinion this model really sums up  the character of Morats, brutal with fierce firepower! Compared to the Sogarat with HMG (which is traditionally sculpted) the Sogarat with feuerbach has far more depth, sharper detail and overall greater bulk. The pose is also awesome, it really reminds me of the marines from Aliens!

I really like playing with the Sogarat, who acts like a mini TAG with his armor of 6. In addition the Sogarats auto med-kit can keep him coming back for more. In one game I managed to use the auto med-kit three times, to really get my points worth out of this model!

Sogarat with HMG

Sogarat with HMG

Sogarat with HMG

Sogarat with HMG

Sogarat with HMG

Sogarat with HMG

The Sogarat with HMG is a great model, but feels dated since the Sogarat with feuerbach has been released. The model is definitely smaller and more 2 dimensional. The paint scheme is also older, as I used more bright colors. Be warned, if you are thinking of getting this model you may want to hold off as a new one is on it’s way.

Kornak is here!

There were some (slightly dodgy) images floating around of Kornak this weekend, but here are the professional shoots from CB!

IMG_20140901_113443

I have been eagerly awaiting this model, as he it has a fantastic stat line and background. It’s safe to say that the sculpt more than exceeds my expectations! In particular the sculpt has an air of authority and brutality, perfect for a Morat commander! You may notice that rather distinctively Kornak is an albino, which really makes him stand out.

On the table you really won’t regret taking Kornak (I have proxied him several times!). Although Kornak is medium infantry, he acts more like heavy infantry as he has no wound incapacitation. To top is off a massive BTS of -9, which wonderfully protects him from viral. On the offense his MK12 is exceedingly deadly, as Kornak has a very high BS of 14.

IMG_20140901_113452

Kornak makes a fantastic addition to both Morats and vanilla Combined Army. In Morat Aggression Force he is a great lieutenant option and can link with Suryats and then Raktoraks to form very deadly and reasonably priced link teams. Kornak is such a brutal fighter he is still worth considering in vanilla Combined Army. Also, On a side note, if you do use Kornak in a vanilla Combined Army any Cadmus will appreciate copying his stat lines!

Combined Army Starter

News from Gencon is exploding all over the internet, with more and more cool Inifnity news. This includes model previews as well as 3rd ed rules. Checkout out the Mayacast Facebook page or Lead Rising, there is so much cool content and both sites are well worth a look! As for me, I just wanted to show off the new Combined Army starter set, as it looks fantastic!

Combined Army Starter Pack

Combined Army Starter Pack

Information is still coming in fragmented snippets, but it seems that the box effectively has two new alien races the Legates and Sygmaa. The Legates look very evil, almost Sith like! The Sygmaa are apparently “Evil Tohaa”, although I don’t know if this really means septorised or not? The campaign Paradiso book did mention Tohaa fighting for the Combined Army, so I half expected to see this style of unit. I am certainly happy that CB went that way! The fact that the Fraacta has a Ko Dali style backpack just makes these models even better.

In addition to the new alien races the Combined Army also has new EI units in the form of the Unidron Batroide. These will be the line troopers for the Combined Army sectorial and look amazing. They really do remind me of smaller Anathematic. The fact that they have plasma weapons makes them even cooler!

I am really happy with the direction than CB are taking with the Combined Army and am really looking forward to seeing the actual models. I am sure to pick them up!

Infinity 3rd Edition

So the big April announcement, hinted at over the last few months, was in fact regarding the 3rd edition of Infinity. In addition there were previews of new models as well as re-sculpts.

It’s safe to say that I am very excited about a 3rd edition of Infinity. I hope that there are no major changes to the game mechanics, as I feel the game is incredibly enjoyable and the system is balanced. However as much as I like the game I can’t dispute that the translation of the rule book is less than perfect, making the rules both difficult to read and sometimes ambiguous. The Infinity wiki and forums can quickly resolve many of these rule issue, however this involves extra effort on the player to find the information. This is fine for a player like myself who is very keen on the system, however I have heard that it’s been a reason for new players to give up the game. As Infinity has undergone rapid expansion in the last few years, in particular globally, a better translated rule book with cleaner rules would certainly encouraging the uptake of the game.

As to the previews of models, we have some (blurry) images to see some upcoming releases. As a Nomad and Combined Army player I am very excited to see that there will be new units coming soon.

 Nomad Interventors

Nomad Interventors

Not only are the Nomad Interventors getting a re-sculpt, but they will also get some companions in the form of “Fast Pandas” (I hope they are working on a better name!).  Rule wise I suspect these will be cheap remotes that are repeaters, much like a doctors/medics G servant (e.g. Palbot, Slave Drone etc). The new Nomad models validate the rumors that we will see a new Nomad sectorial, from the mother ship Tunguska. Currently there are very few models from Tunguska in the Nomad range, the most notable being the Interventors. Based on the background Tunguska will probably have a good selection of remotes and higher technology than the other Nomad sectorials.

Fast Panda

Fast Panda

The next really interesting preview for me is a Combined Army EI (Evolved Intelligence)  sectorial. I really like the style they have gone with, as it’s similar to the Ikadron. I hope there are also Sepsitorised humans in the EI sectorial, as I really enjoyed painting Ko Dhali (pictures coming soon!).

EI Unidron

EI Unidron

With two new sectorials for Nomads and Combined Army, even though I only collect two armies I will be able to play 6 different sectorials as well as the “vanilla” army. This would give me an impressive selection of 8 different army list to try out, which I am certainly looking to doing!
