Archive for October, 2014

In preparation for Halloween here are my Scary Monsters and Super Creeps! I hope you enjoy them!:)

Oznat and Pretas

Oznat and Pretas

Pretas and Oznat (the scary monsters!) are part of my Combined Army force. The detail on the Oznat is fantastic, as her helmet and sword are fashioned from the remain of a defeated Alpha Preta (this is how they become the pack leader!). Even her necklace is made from the teeth of a Preta!

The pretas have a very high level of detail and movement. This dynamic poses looks great, but can be a pain when putting them togther!

Chimera Pupniks

Chimera Pupniks

In addition to the pretas here are photos of my “Super Creeps”, the Chimera, Pumpniks and even Bran Do Castro! They may look like there are off to a fancy dress party, but these are actually genetically modified warriors from Bakunin. I suppose this is what happens when you are aloud to delve into genetic manipulation unhindered!

Bran Do Castro

Bran Do Castro

Often referred to as the “Monkey King”, Bran is a Tripple Zero which means he is a fantastic infiltrator. I decided to not add the tail as I thought he was already special enough…

October’s Infinity Releases

This month we have another set of fantastic Inifnity miniatures.  As in previous months I will rate the models using the “Schreiber scale” (basically between 1 and 5).

Kotail

280919-0503-azul

This is the second Kotail to be released (the duel combi rifle version was released last month). This version combines the devastating fire power of a spitfire with the speed and mobility you expect and now fear from a Kotail. In addition the holoprojector level 2 makes this model a major threat.

As for the model, I think I slightly prefer the Kotail with combi rifle but I still highly rate this model. I think this is a solid sculpt in a fairly dynamic pose considering it’s just holding it’s gun in two hands. For these reason I give the model a score of 4.

Tokusetsu’s

280372-0499-azul

The Tokusetsu is the JSA medic. The Tokusetsu’s profile is not much to shout about, in fact they have a bad BS of 10. Still the Tokusetsu makes for a decent cheap specialist.

The model itself is far more outstanding, as I think this is a really cool sculpt. I have always been a fan of the MC hammer trousers, but the thin legs of the Tokusetsu make these even more pronounced. The rest of the model is just very well sculpted in a decent pose, so I rate this model a score of 3.

Janissarie

280470-0501-azul

When I saw the previewed 3D renders I was very excited about this sculpt. The backpack feed HMG looks very impersive and the model had a look of Iron man about him. Unfortunately I am a little disappointed by the slenderness of the final model, especially the legs. I feel a bit harsh for complaining about this, but for me it really takes away from an otherwise cool model. For this reason I am unfortunately giving this model a 2. Such a shame as I really wanted to rate it higher.

On the plus side if you do take a Janissarie it’s a good idea to take the HMG, so at least this model is very playable.

Warcor

280718-0495-azul

The Warcor is more for fun than an actual gaming model, although it can help a lot with promotion rolls in Campaign Paradiso. You could also make some great missions based on rescuing a Warcor, or trying to assassinate one!

I think the Warcor is a solid model, in a far more dynamic pose than I had expected. I am also pleased to see the addition of the small flying camera bot. It’s a nice touch. Personally I won’t be buying a Warcor, but it’s a decent sculpt so I give it a score of 3.

Dog-Warriors

280169-0497-azul

I covered my thoughts on the previewed 3D renders in another post and I am happy to say that the actual Dog-Warriors models do not disappoint! The models are very finly sculpted and have a feel of raw aggression.  The Dog-Warriors are my pick of the month, as they simply look stunning. The new Dog-Warriors are a massive improvement on the older ones and adds a lot to the Russian Ariadna range.

I must note that the paint work on these models is also top notch. I am particularly impressed by the tattoos, which match on the human and Dog-Warriors. I have no doubt that I will be picking these models up, so give them a definite 5!

Here are my EI units for my Combined Army. These are generally the army lieutenant, leading a combination of other EI units Morats and Shasvastii into battle.

Anathematic

Anathematic

I painted the Anathematic a dark color scheme as it has TO camo, so I wanted it to look more stealthy. The model is really cool, I especially like the antenna! On the table most players fear the version with Sepsitor, as that can take control over enemy models!

Charontid with HMG

Charontid with HMG

The Charontid is a semi organic model, so I painted the flesh areas a pinkish red. This contrast well with the armor, but is a bit garish so I don’t think I will use it on future models.

Skiavoro

Skiavoro

The Skiavoro has my standard turquoise armor, but as it’s an android I used a darker green skin tone. I am really happy with the final result and will aim to use this scheme on future models.

Ikadrons

Ikadrons

My faithful cheap Ikadrons, these are a great asset to any CA player. I painted these in a similar scheme to the Charontid as they are semi organic. Again I will probably avoid the reddish pink again! Other than that I think they look alright.

Reverend Moiras

Here are my Reverend Moiras from Bakunin. I had fun painting human skin (something I am still experimenting with) and added a purple tinge to the skin tone. I also added my usual checkered pattern to the robes of the Moiras.

Reverend Moiras

Reverend Moiras

Reverend Moiras have an odd reputation, as many player prefer the Riot Grrls over them. Personally I have never found them to be lacking in any way. The ODD often puts firefights well into into the Reverend Moiras favor. In addition the ability to have a long ranged HMG gives them a very different roll compared to the Riot Grrls medium range spitfire. However I agree that the Reverend Moiras having just a single wound, vulnerability to fire and opponents with MSV2/3 is a negative compared to Riot Grrls.

I was surprised that the older Moira with multi-rifle did not look completely out of place, although it’s weapon is certainly larger than the others.

Heavy Metal Morats!

Below are photos of my Morat heavy infantry (plus a Raktorak butler!). These are the heavy hitters of my Morat army and great fun to use. They pack the best armor and weapons and one of them is often my lieutenant. After all these are Morats and the strong lead!

I created my color scheme for my Combined Army before the Morats got their nice new dark military scheme, so they look brighter than I would have liked. To try and counter this I added black to some of their armor. Hopefully this will make them look a bit more menacing!

Suryat and Raktorak

I painted the light sources in the armor yellow to give some extra contrast on the models. The Suryat is a great sculpt and one of my favorite Morat models. The helmet reminds me of a bull! The Raktorak is also cool and has a great pose, it really looks strong and brutal!

Sogarat with feuerbach

Sogarat

Sogarat with feuerbach

The Sogarat with with feuerbach is from the Morat starter set and is one great model. In my opinion this model really sums up  the character of Morats, brutal with fierce firepower! Compared to the Sogarat with HMG (which is traditionally sculpted) the Sogarat with feuerbach has far more depth, sharper detail and overall greater bulk. The pose is also awesome, it really reminds me of the marines from Aliens!

I really like playing with the Sogarat, who acts like a mini TAG with his armor of 6. In addition the Sogarats auto med-kit can keep him coming back for more. In one game I managed to use the auto med-kit three times, to really get my points worth out of this model!

The Sogarat with HMG is a great model, but feels dated since the Sogarat with feuerbach has been released. The model is definitely smaller and more 2 dimensional. The paint scheme is also older, as I used more bright colors. Be warned, if you are thinking of getting this model you may want to hold off as a new one is on it’s way.

Infinity Podcasts

This week sees the start of an all new UK Infinity podcast, so I thought I’d have a run down of the podcast that I listen to.
TotallyCRIT
Totally Crit
This is the brand new Infinity podcast made by UK players, which is its real selling point to me as I based in the UK. It’s great to hear about UK events and from gamers that you (at least vaguely) recognise from the tournament scene or their ITS ranking. In fact the Hydra crew who present this podcast dominated the last tournament I went to, so I have no doubt that they know their stuff!

The first episode touched on how they got into Infinity and recent Infinity news, which is all interesting stuff in my books. I think the group showed good chemistry and I hope this is the first of many podcast by them. I certainly look forward to hearing more about the UK Infinity scene!

Mayacast
Mayacast may have only officially started in April this year, but the host have plenty of experience gained from the O-12 podcast which they presented. This podcast provides excellent tactical knowledge, painting tips and upcoming Infinity news directly from Corvus Belli. They even give Infinity themed cocktail recipes!

The presenters provided a nice mix between the level headed and thorough Tom Schadle and the enthusiastic and equally talented Kip. I especially like how they rate each moths Infinity releases, an idea I have stolen for my own blog! Tom Schadle’s painting is also stunning, so well worth looking on the Mayacast blog.

This is my current go to podcast and I highly recommend checking it out.

O-12

Before Mayacast, there was O-12. The line up may have fluctuated, but the real meat of the podcast (in my opinion) was Tom and Kip.  O-12 is especially good for giving overview of factions, sectorials and rules and so really worth a listen to for newer players.

Unfortunately with Tom starting up Mayacast, O-12 does not seem to be updating at the moment. Perhaps it will in time, as Kip is still technically part of it. Regardless of it’s current status, this podcast remains a fantastic resource.

The Krug

What happens if you talk about Infinity and get drunk at the same time? Well, The Krug of course! This two drink minimum podcast (that’s for the presenters, although I think listeners are encouraged to as well!) provides an interesting mix of brilliant tactics, drunken ramblings and insanely funny jokes. In fact think the joke about the bootleg Joan of Arc and tentacles actually made me laugh out loud at work…

But don’t be fooled, Just because the presenters are getting drunk and spend a lot of time talking about Kum Bikers and Exrah codpieces does not mean there is no depth to the podcast. Far from it in fact, the presenters really know there stuff. If you want a laugh and tactics at the same time this is the podcast for you. I highly rate it!
