The other type of Space Wolf…

Images from Gencon showed how awesome the new Dog Warriors are going to look, now mayacast has more great quality images to show them off. It’s safe to say that I think these look fantastic! I think the new Antipode style face gives them a clearly were-wolf look, but also has a hint of something alien about it.

Dog Warriors

Dog Warriors

What I really like about the the  Dog Warriors is how they fit next to the Antipode. Side by side you can see how the Dog Warriors has more human characteristics. In particular the torso in far more human than the wolf like Antipode torso. The Dog Warrior is also far bulkier which gives some credit to it having more wounds, although I don’t see why it has armor value of 3!

Dog Warriors and Antipode

Dog Warriors and Antipode

Before you can use your Dog Warrior, you need a Dog Face. I think these are nice model, although nothing as outstanding as the Dog warriors themselves. I do like the attention to detail, with the Dog Faces clearly having the same weapons as the Dog Warrior. In addition the scare on one of the Dog Face is also on the corresponding Dog Warrior.

With these cool models, Ariadna are looking more and more likely to be my next army!

Painted Nomad Morans and Daktari

Below are more of my painted Nomads. This time my two Morans and a Daktari.

Although slightly older models now (I believe they were released during Human Sphere), I think the Morans stand up well. In particular I like the little crazy Koalas, they have a real fun (if cartoonist!) feel to them.

On the table Morans are great for area denial, either by use of the crazy koalas or acting as repeaters if you have a hacker. In addition Mornas are great for ITS as they can be forward observers and infiltrate, allowing them to get close to objectives. To top it off Morans are not bad in a firefight with a BS12 and mimetism. Perhaps the only downside is that they don’t have full camo like many skirmishers.

The Daktari may be a very standard medic, but I still find her a useful addition to my force.

Combined Army Starter

News from Gencon is exploding all over the internet, with more and more cool Inifnity news. This includes model previews as well as 3rd ed rules. Checkout out the Mayacast Facebook page or Lead Rising, there is so much cool content and both sites are well worth a look! As for me, I just wanted to show off the new Combined Army starter set, as it looks fantastic!

Combined Army Starter Pack

Combined Army Starter Pack

Information is still coming in fragmented snippets, but it seems that the box effectively has two new alien races the Legates and Sygmaa. The Legates look very evil, almost Sith like! The Sygmaa are apparently “Evil Tohaa”, although I don’t know if this really means septorised or not? The campaign Paradiso book did mention Tohaa fighting for the Combined Army, so I half expected to see this style of unit. I am certainly happy that CB went that way! The fact that the Fraacta has a Ko Dali style backpack just makes these models even better.

In addition to the new alien races the Combined Army also has new EI units in the form of the Unidron Batroide. These will be the line troopers for the Combined Army sectorial and look amazing. They really do remind me of smaller Anathematic. The fact that they have plasma weapons makes them even cooler!

I am really happy with the direction than CB are taking with the Combined Army and am really looking forward to seeing the actual models. I am sure to pick them up!

Nomad (Cool) Cats!

Below are photos of my Nomad Wildcats, Hellcats and even a Tomcat (once again courtesy of Lee). Hailing from Corregidor these Nomads offer a range of tactical options and at a fair price to boot! The models were great fun to paint. I changed the color scheme from the studio version, by painting the helmets white to make them stand out at a distance.

Wildcats

Wildcats often get a bit of stick for being over priced (a rarity in Inifnity!). However after playing with them, I think they are well worth their points. First off Wilcats have an excellent BS of 13, allowing them to win more firefights which means they are more resilient than their merge armor 2 would suggest. In addition Wildcats have a light flamer that allow them to act as great flank guards, as well as put off any troops with ODD or TO camo from getting up close.

Wildcat

Wildcat

Wildcats also have access to both engineers and hackers, both of which are great specialist for ITS missions and the likes. The hacker version is a fantastic defensive hacker with a BTS of -6. On the offensive Wildcats have access to both spitfires and heavy rocket launchers. Unfortunately the heavy rocket launcher is at a premium 2 SWC, which restricts it’s use. However both weapons are deadly in the hands of a BS13 troop and still relativity low in points.

The Wildcats really shine when they are in a link, as this mitigates their slow speed, so best played with a Corregidor sectorial force. It’s also worth noting that they can have access to the Number 2 rule (allowing them to maintain a fire team even after the link leader is killed) and provide a decent 0 SWC lieutenant.

To top it off the Wildcat models are very cool, so certainly worth giving a go!

Wildcat

Wildcat

Hellcats

These are perhaps the most “no nonsense” level 3 Ariel Deployment (AD) troops in Infinity, but this is actually what sets them apart for me. They have exactly the right stats and abilities to keep them effective and cheap. In fact Wildcats start off at a mere 20pts. It’s also easy to include EVO repeaters, which allow your Wildcats to land with (effectively) a PH of 15.

Hellcat with HMG

Hellcat with HMG

Wildcats have access to the usual sniper, HMG and hacker options that you expect from AD3 troops. However they also have access to adhesive launchers, which is a great way to deal with single high priority targets like TAG’s. Perhaps the other most useful Wildcat profile is the paramedic, as this is a relatively cheap AD3 specialist, perfect for ITS style missions.
Hellcat

Tomcats

The Tomcat is another cheap AD troop, but this time restricted to AD2. If you don’t fancy using AD3 anyway Tomcat’s can be a more cost effective option, although they do lack the heavier weapon options. Tomcats also have more maneuverability than Hellcats, as they are not slowed down by medium armor and have climbing plus. Wildcats also pack a light flamer.

Tomcat

Tomcat

The Tomcats also have access to both engineer and doctor options. With their mobility Tomcats can get these specalist skills to were they are needed most, regardless of it it’s repairing a TAG, healing a friendly model or completing a mission.

Here is my (almost) monthly review and ramblings on the latest Inifnity releases. As in previous months I will rate the models using the “Schreiber scale” (basically between 1 and 5).

Antipodes

It’s the re-sculpts that these models deserved and what a fantastic job Corvus Belli have done! I really like how they look are obviously wolf like, but retain an alien proportion in the head. From a fluff perspective you can see why these would give the colonizers of Ariadna issues!

Antipode Assault Pack

Antipode Assault Pack

The three Antipodes are all based of the same computer generated sculpt and then repositioned, which is pretty amazing when you consider how varied the poses are. I think these are the stars of the the month and easily get a 5. In fact at the very least I want to buy one Antipode, even though I don’t play Ariadna. However these are the sort of models that make you want to start a new faction, perhaps something new for me in 2015?

On the table antipodes are a fearsome sight as they are very fast and can easily gang up on people in combat. There camo also allows them to get across the table safely, although the controller can use her smoke launcher if needed (if she is not hiding somewhere!). Antipodes also have the sensor ability, which allows them to detect hidden troops and reveal camo markers. This is a great way to avoid any nasty surprises, as well as to help mitigate for the lack of MSV2/3 in Ariadna. Basically if you play vanilla Ariadna, you should pick these up!

Raktorak

Morat players have another Raktorak to play with, this time armed with the best shot gun in the game! The Vulcan shotgun profile is already playable, but looks to have a major boast in 3rd as it will receive a mighty +6 bonus within 8″.

Raktorak

The model itself is really dynamically posed, portraying a lot of aggression and strength. In fact I slightly prefer this model to the one in the starter box, but I rate both a 5 on the “Schreiber” scale. It will only be a matter of time until I pick this new Raktorak up!

The only downside to having two amazing Raktorak models, is that there is currently only one Suryat model to link with! Linking with heavy infantry is what really make Raktorak stand out, so they will become more useful once we see more Suryat sculpts or perhaps even the eagerly awaited Kornak Gazarot!

Ghulam Special Weapon Pack

Ghulams are the generic line troop of the Haqqislam, playable in both vanilla are the current two sectorials. As such this weapon pack is a great bonus to all Haqqislam players.

Ghulam

The models themselves are very crisp and clean. I would however say that they do not have as much character as the current Ghulams with rifles. Because of this I will rate the new Ghulam pack a 4 as although they are fantastic, they are not so amazing that I have to buy them.

Thamiris

After seeing the artwork for Thamiris I was very excited to see the model. Unfortunately I feel that the art work set my expectations so high, that this model really feels like it has fallen short. In fact I plain don’t like this model, so i am going to have to give it my first 1. It feels really harsh to rate the model so lowly, but I think it is below the standard that I expect from Corvus Belli.

Thamiris

Even if you agree with my rating of this model, I am sure it will still sell well. This is because it has some very interesting rules. First off Thamiris is a fantastic hacker with a high will power and decent BTS. What really sets him apart is that he has markers, so can shoot deployable repeaters. This allows Thamiris to safely extend his hacking influence across the table. That said Thamiris is not completely unarmed for combat either, as he has a very nice assault pistol. This does mean that Thamiris will not want to get into any long range firefight (and by that I mean over 8″!), but why should he when he can safely hack using his repeaters? To top it off Thamiris even has no wound incapacitation. All this and Thamiris is only 29pts!

Zuyong Invincible

I’ll admit that I know very little about this model, but I do know it looks amazing!

zuyong invincible

I really like the style Corvus Belli are taking with this Heavy Infantry. Apparently the design is based on Sun Tzu. This is yet another example of why computer aided sculpting is so amazing. As soon as one model is created it can be used as a template for other models in the range, which will instantly share the same great aesthetics

This model has been done to a very high standard, so I have to give it a 4. I am very keen to see what other models comes out for the new sectorial this model will belongs to.
