The Geckos for Nomads have been revealed and it seems they were well worth the wait! Ok this is technically week old news, but I have been off on holiday so it’s new to me!

These are some truly impressive looking TAG’s. I really like the fact that the models are actually using their weapons (often Infinity models are sculpted into stylised positions, where they are not firing their weapons). I really like the armour as it’s chunky but also has a lot of detail on it. To view more photos of the new Geckos visit Studio Giraldez.

The Geckos would look fantastic next to the recently released Corregidor starter set or Iguana. Personally I think Corregidor has some of the nicest models in the Infinity range now.

Game wise the Geckos look impressive. They are the cheapest and lightest TAG around and really should be thought of as heavy infantry. For starters the Geckos cost around the mid-fifties, which puts them into the price bracket of expensive heavy infantry rather than TAGs. However Geckos are more resilient than an equivalent heavy infantry, with an armour value of 5 and 3 structure points. With Geckos you are certainly getting a lot of armour for your points investment!

The Geckos are lightly armed for TAG’s or even a lot of Heavy Infantry, who often have access to HMG’s . The Geckos primary weapons are short ranged (two combi-rifles) to medium ranged (MK12). At longer ranges the Geckos have to rely on either a panzerfaust or blitzen. Both of these weapons are only 2 shots each, so won’t provide long-term protection. Perhaps one of the worst situation for a Gecko would be to get shot up by heavy fire-power at a distance, once it’s panzerfaust or blitzen have been used up. In this situation the Gecko would have to rely on dodging. As a TAG the Gecko PH value for dodging would counts as 9 (after applying the -6 modifier), which is quite low.  With this in mind I think the Geckos will need to be pushed up the board into medium/short ranged fire fight, where there reliance should see them through. Thankfully the Geckos have a move value of 4-4, so although not as fast as other TAG’s they are faster than many heavy infantry. The Geckos also have a chain colt, which could be useful for flushing out clumped up light infantry or to intuitive attack camo markers.

I think it’s also worth noting that Gecko’s have a BTS of only -3. This means that Gecko’s are the only TAG (to my knowledge) that has a BTS of less than -6. This low BTS means that a good defensive hacker would be very beneficial, such as a Wildcat hacker with it’s BTS of -6. In addition weapons that target BTS rather than armour, such as viral and em amo, should be avoided by Gecko’s.

I am really excited about adding the Geckos to my Nomad force as I think they will add a lot of resilience to an army that can be fairly fragile (most Nomad list are made up of light or medium infantry). However regardless of exactly how they play, the Geckos are simply amazing models that I can’t wait to get onto my painting table! In fact my Geckos have already been per-ordered from Arcane Miniatures!
